The safety and well-being of our students is one of our greatest concerns. In order to assist us in ensuring that we maintain adequate supervision of students, please note the following supervision times and related requests.

Supervision a.m. (before school)

Entry Bell is at 8:30 a.m. Beginning at 8:15 a.m., we have staff on supervision outside. Please do not send your child to school before this time. Additionally, If your child attends daycare or dayhome that transports your child to our school, please confirm that they are aware of our drop of times. We do not want children unsupervised.

Recesses:

These times are fully supervised by our dedicated staff.

After School Supervision:

Staff members are outside from 3:15 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Please Note:

• If you are riding your bike to school to pick up your child, we would ask that you model appropriate safety rules by walking your bike on school property and walking across marked crosswalks.

• If your child is riding their bike or scooter to school, please ensure they have a lock that they are able to use. We have multiple stations around the school for the students to lock their bikes and scooters.

Pet Reminder

Please do NOT bring dogs onto school property. We have many students who are allergic or are very fearful of our furry friends.

If you are walking your pet, please make arrangements to meet your child(ren) at either the end of the bus loop in front of the school or on the soccer field at the back of the school Thank you for helping us to maintain a safe environment for students. We appreciate your understanding.

Bus Safety/Use of Crosswalks

West Haven Public School has a loop for BUSES ONLY. Parents have a Kiss'n'Go area on the street. To prevent injury to members of our school family, vehicle traffic will not be permitted in the bus loop between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. This time represents the highest potential risk to students. Thank you for your continued cooperation in this very important matter.

Staff Parking

At our school, the safety of everyone is a top priority. To help keep the parking areas safe and organized, the parking lot is for school employees only. We kindly ask parents to use only the designated student drop-off and pick-up areas and to follow all posted signs and staff directions. By working together and respecting parking guidelines, we can maintain a safe environment for all students, staff and families.

Pickup and Drop-off Plans

Each year, we like to remind everyone to have a clear pickup plan in place with your child. If siblings are to meet up at the end of the day to walk home, please ensure they have a designated meeting spot. If somebody other than a legal guardian is picking up your child, of if there is an unexpected pickup change, please notify both the classroom teacher and the office.

Reminders

Student Absences

For the safety of our students, it is extremely important to notify the school if your child will be late or absent. If the school is not notified, we are obligated to phone your home or office, or, if needed, your emergency contacts to confirm the absence. We have introduced a new, more efficient student absence reporting system called SafeArrival. This new system will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance, make it wasy for your to report your child's absence and easy for staff to respond to unexplained student absences. You will need to create an account to start using the program. Go to SafeArrival and create your account using the SIGN UP botton on the top right hand side of the screen before you download the app for the smoothest account creation process. Once the account has been created, you can download the app from the same page. Please note that you need to use the multicoloured app. You may also leave a message on the school voice mail from 4:00 pm to 8:00 am.

Visitors to our School

All visitors to the school are required to come through the office and to sign in.

Student Pick-Up

We are unable to release students to anyone besides their parents or legal guardians. If someone other than yourselves will be picking up a student, we need notification from you by either a phone call or a note to the classroom teacher or the office. Thank you for your help in this matter.

**If there is a legal custody order that pertains to your child, please be advised that in order to enforce this, we must have a copy at the school.
